Evangeline (Vangie) Canonizado BuellEvangeline "Vangie" Buell was born in 1932 in San Pedro, CA, but grew up in Oakland. Vangie grew up on the outskirts of Chinatown on 18th Street and Adeline, and also on 12th Street and Magnolia Street. Her parents were from the Phillipines, and identified with Chinatown immediately because that was where they could get their ingredients for Phillipine cooking. So Vangie spent a lot of time in Chinatown growing up. She is the author of "Twenty-Five Chickens and a Pig for a Bride."
